Join us as we kickoff IM Talk Back 2020’s Welcome to the Spaceship: Technology, Business and Love, our inaugural online conference. Look forward to good music, good conversation, a lot of laughs (and maybe some dancing, too). Immediately following will be a kickoff talk from Dr. Sagashus Levingston, the Talk Back’s founder.

Imagine a world in which women are at the forefront of technological innovation. We’re creating apps, machines, social media and many other pieces of technology that solve problems. We are running IT departments and working as managers and directors in the tech field. Imagine a world in which women are not only building cutting-edge companies, but they have access to the capital to sustain those solutions. Can you see it? Now, did you include in this vision faces of mothers who raise their children without the benefits of a partner, moms who’ve survived human trafficking, caretakers whose husbands are incarcerated, survivors of domestic violence and moms in recovery? We do. In our vision, their faces are included in the movement to advance women in the worlds of technology and business. Today’s sessions are all about gaining tools, tips and strategies to make this possible.

Saturday, April 25th

LOVE + TECHNOLOGY | LOVE + BUSINESS | LOVE

While Friday is mainly about professional development, Saturday is about combining the personal with the professional. On one hand, it’s about looking at technology as more than science, machinery and apps. It’s about looking at business as more than trade and commerce. Today’s sessions are about the ways in which these seemingly “objective” things can build community, transform lives and inspire people to reclaim their right to their own identities. On the other hand, this day is about imagining what it looks like to be both women AND mothers—not feeling obligated to choose between the two. It’s about owning our right to be loved and to love…and to carve out our own identities as sexual beings. In short, Saturday’s sessions are about giving ourselves permission to exist in spaces that have previously not imagined us in them.

Sunday, April 26th

IMfuturism

A movement in technology, business and love that features futuristic “infamous mothering” is called IMfuturism. Sunday, the final day of the conference, looks at the future of our core themes through the lens of these women. Sunday is the culmination of all the work we’ve done on Friday and Saturday. It’s about taking everything we’ve discussed and creating narratives that imagine a world that includes us in it how we choose to be seen; it’s about building mothering practices that honor both our personal and professional visions; and it’s about designing our own birthing experiences to get the outcomes we see for ourselves. Sunday is not just about taking ownership; it’s about doing so without apology.

1. Do I need to download or install any software to visit the digital site?

   No, you will not need to download any software. You can simply enjoy the site through your chosen device. Some sessions may require the Zoom app; these will be noted in the agenda.

2. Can I access the site from my cell phone?

   You can visit from anywhere you have WiFi access. The site is available on desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile.

3. Will I be able to record any portions of my visit?

   Recording will not be possible for any of our programming. Prospective students will have the option of emailing themselves files and documents that individual labs will make available through the swag bag feature (see below).

4. How do I login on the day of my visit?

   Once you register, your login details will be emailed to you. You can use them to visit the site as often as you want over nine days.

5. Will the digital site be available before my selected visit day?

   The site will open for browsing two days before your scheduled visit.

6. Can I visit the digital site after my selected visit day?

   The site will be available to you for six days after your visit, including the lobby, booths, and auditorium. But there will be no live chats available once your visit has ended.

7. Who will I be able to chat with during the visit?

   A representative will be stationed at the Info Desk.

8. Will I be able to take anything away from my visit?

   Yes. We will have a swag bag for you. You can add documents that are of interest to your online swag bag in your account, and then email them to yourself.

9. What if I am having trouble with the site?

10. Can I share my login details or invite other participants?

    The visiting weekends are restricted to our registered admitted students only, and your login details are specific to you only. They should not be shared.

11. What happens after my visiting weekend?

    We hope that our virtual visits will provide you with information that will be helpful as you consider your graduate school choices. We encourage you to reach out to any faculty, graduate students, or researchers whom you met during your visit.
